Jijjiga, August 17 (WIC) – The Somali State said it is working rigorously so as to alleviate the socio-economic problems of the state through scaling up ongoing development, good governance and democratization endeavors.

Opening a consultative forum focused on good governance, conflict resolution and federalism, representative of Somali State Chief Administrator, Guled Abdulahi, said the state government would give priority for the prevalence of good governance in the state.

He said efforts are underway to bring about good governance and speed up democratization endeavors through the involvement of residents of the state.

Moreover, the state’s government is working to prevent conflicts that arise due to various reasons so that they would not hamper development activities, Guled said.

As the Somali state is one of the areas where contraband activities are being widely seen, the state government is providing awareness raising education to the people about the negative impacts of such illicit activities over the economic growth of the state.

Series of consultative forums carried out over the past months helped residents of the state work closely with the government, Guled indicated.

The state government is determined to expedite development and alleviate poverty, he said, adding the public drive created among residents of the state would contribute to successful implementation of policies and strategies set by the government.

Participants drawn from six woredas of Jijjiga zone, town administration, the business community and state bureaus took part at the three day forum the state government organized in collaboration with Walta Information Center.
